LAYER

- Run Datastore Query…
This function ruba a datastore query. It is also possible to access to the Connection Datastore Manager and choose the driver
- Cut Selected Layers
Cut selected layers off from the Layer List and Layer View. This function works both raster and vector layers
- Add MrSID Layer
Open aerial or satellite photos in MrSid format (.SID extentson).
This function is deactivated for default . To activate this function user must install the MrSid extension in Openjump.
%{color:blue}TIP: to install MrSID extension:
(note: instructions for NightlyBuild below)
- (1) download mrsidgeodecode.exe and mrsidgeoinfo.exe from LizardTech website,
- (2) on Windows platforms create a ECT folder in the ‘program’ folder (e.g. ‘C:\Program Files\etc\’) and put the 2 files in it.
- (3)Now, rename the files: ‘mrsidgeodecode_win.exe’ to ‘mrsiddecode.exe’ and ‘mrsidgeoinfo_Win.exe’ to ‘mrsidinfo.exe’.
- (4) Start OpenJUMP and look if you can load the files
- (6) Create also a TEMP folder inside OpenJUMP install folder and give it read/write permissions. This is where the Openjump stores temp info for the MrSID images being read. This trick probabily works only for MS Windows based Operative Systems.
- If you encout problems with the new Lizard extensions, download the old mrsidinfo.exe file here%
- for users of nighlty build (since May 2008): place the files: mrsidgeodecode.exe and mrsidgeoinfo.exe in the /etc/ folder of OpenJUMP. Create also the folder called “TMP” in the OJ “ETC” folder. that’s it. Check now if the option to load “MrSID” files is offered in the file load dialog.
- Copy selected layers
With this function selected layers can be copied from a category in the Layer List
- Paste layers
Copied layers can be pasted in another category. The new layer take the same name of the original one with a consecutive number (Layer(2), Layer(3)...). New layers have to be saved after copied in order not to loose datas
- Remove selected layers
Selected layers can be removed from Layer List
- Remove selected categories
Selected categories can be removed from Layer List.
- Save style as SLD file This function saves the style of the layer in SLD (Styled layer description) format. So the layer can be imported together with its style into another GIS software that reads SLD, like uDig.
- Import SLD style file This function allows to import a SLD style file to a layer. Other GIS software like uDig and Kosmo can export to SLD format
- Change SRID…
“Spatial Reference Identifier” (SRID) defines the property of the used projection or coordinate system. With “Change SRID…” function it is possible to change the SRID of a selected datastore layer.
For better explanation about “Spatial Reference Identifier” see Morten Nielsen’s definition

LAYER

Add a new Layer
This functions add a new empty layer to the Workbrench. The new layer is already editable (see Layer List>Editable) and can be modified adding new objects and attribute. New layers must be saved in order not to loose modifications.
- Add Datastore Layer…
This function allows to connect to a datastore layer. On the Add Datastore Query Windows it is possible to specify some function and define the connection and the drivers. A read-only PostGIS driver is embedded in Openjump base software. Other database plugins can be downloaded in the Openjump External Plugin web page
- Run Datastore Query…
This function ruba a datastore query. It is also possible to access to the Connection Datastore Manager and choose the driver
- Cut Selected Layers

Add a WMS query
This function opens a new windows where users can connect OpenJUMP to a WMS (Web Map Service) layer. WMS produces maps of spatially referenced data dynamically from geographic information, usually the maps have a raster format, like JPG, PNG or GIF, sometimes in a vector SVG format. In the new windows users can write a new URL address of WMS
The WMS windows shows DEEGREE WMS which is actually deactivated. User can search WMP pages on Internet (they usually have a .wms or .cgi extensions).
For beginners, use NASA image database: http://wms.jpl.nasa.gov/wms.cgi
: TIP: if you want to save all the WMS you use you can create a text file in Openjump directory and save all the URLs in it.
By the time you want to connect to a specific WMS,copy its URL from the TXT file to the clipboard (CTRL+C in Windows) and past it (CTRL+C in Windows)in the Openjump URL space in the Add a WMS query window
- Add Image Layer (ecw deactivated)
This function opens a raster layer. Openjump currently support these raster format: .GIF, .PNG, .JPG, .TIF, and .TIFF . ECW support is deactivated.
Add Image Layer function doesn’t support the trasparency. To have this function download PIROL raster plugin (download two files: baseclass.jar and rasterimage.jar and put them in the OpenJUMP/LIB/EXT folder)
TIP: (For Windows Users) If you want to open ECW raster image with embedded Add Image Layer, find on Internet ER Mapper ECW drivers (NcsCnet.dll,NCSEcw.dll and NCSUtil.dll) and copy them in OpenJUMP/LIB/EXT folder.
Those files can be find on the ER Mapper web page
as a part of Image Compression SDK. Read licence for details.
See also OpenJUMP Raster Plugins”:http://openjump.org/wiki/show/Plugins for other possibilities.
- Add a new category
This function adds a new category to Openjump Layer List. The new category is displayed with name “new category”. User can rename it clicking twise on it with left button of mouse
- Cut selected layers
User can cut from Layer List the selected layers. This function works both raster and vector layers
- Copy selected layers
With this function selected layers can be copied from a category in the Layer List
